What does it say about us when we continue to celebrate through our clothes? For me the day after Easter the bunnies go away, the day after Christmas you will not see a Santa on my chest and the day after the 4th of July you will not see the red white and blue on my person.
Perhaps this stems from my childhood and the immense shame I had that my mother would keep the Christmas tree up until Valentines day. And sometime after that in the dead of night she would drag the Christmas tree, needles falling, now reduced to its trunk and branches. And she would walk the long distance through our neighborhood and down into the woods for the drop. As if the distance between us and the shameful tree would change things. So in my home sometime before New Years Eve I take down My tree. It is over, I have celebrated and now I am done. No sneaking, skulking or dragging things out in the dead of night. That was fun and I am not forlorn because there will be more fun to be had.
So must the party go on? We all have our reasons for and against but in the end if you are not bringing a little girl shame I say go for it.
One thing that I have learned is that people are usually paying a lot less attention to us than we think they are. They are usually so wrapped up in their own worlds that they don't even notice what we're doing. You have a lot to be proud of! Please keep sharing it!
